The illustrations refer to various periods in Montessori’s life and the many dimensions of her work, as well as to different stages in the life of the Montessori schools, which were started in 1907 in Rome’s San Lorenzo district and then spread to a variety of geographical and socio-cultural contexts. The pictures help readers grasp Montessori’s theory of education ‘in action’ as well as its expansion from the Children’s Houses to primary schools, that is, from early childhood to adolescence. The captions state published sources/known places of conservation, contexts, sites, countries, years/periods of reference. All materials are indexed, and as the search engine operates on captions, searches by year/time period, by key word, by city, and by country are possible.
